Whilst it could be said that most educated folk understand the general science that landed men on the Moon in the latter part of the 20th Century it is sad that the very same people fail to understand the mechanics behind the tides - some might opine it is a terrible indictment of the educational system that this ignorance persists into the 21st Century. If you are reading these words then there is the high probability that you are also in the dark and will fail to explain the ocean tides.
