This novel is an amalgam of truth and fiction. All of the events described are based on actual occurrences, some of which have been slightly altered for the sake of dramatic unity. Some of the characters are a combination of several people; this allows a consolidation for literary efficiency. Some dates have also been chronologically adjusted. The time is 1991. The Place is Santa Rosa California. As in CC V Rita Troyer ESQ and I, Gary Arlaud PI are still teamed up. This is a story about a reformed gangster millionaire accused of hireling the murder on another man and the jury who was having a rough time deciding the guilt or innocence of a fellow mortal. How rough was it? Even Rita and I didn't know for sure.
