This is the Korean text version (paperback) of the military historical novel, The Blue House Raid: American Infantry and the Korean DMZ Conflict by Robert Perron and translated by Euigoo Kang.청와대 습격은 한국에서 벌어진 베트남 전쟁 시기의 잘 알려지지 않은 분쟁으로, 북한이 한국의 대통령 박정희를 서울 그의 관저에서 암살하기 위한 대담한 공격을 개시하여 미국과 한국의 결의를 시험했던 사건이다. 그러나, 같은 이름의 이 소설은 실패로 끝난 당시의 공격을 묘사하는 데서 그치지 않는다. 미군 장교로 비무장지대에서 13개월을 근무한 적이 있는 저자는 가공의 여러 등장인물을 설정하여 비무장지대에 배치된 미군과 한국군 병사들, 미군 주둔의 영향을 받은 한국 민간인들, 특히 미군 부대 주위에 퍼져 있던 기지촌의 워킹걸들과 광범위하게 얽힌 관계를 엮어낸다. 공격에 가담한 북한군 병사들도 이 소설 청와대 습격에 명쾌한 모습으로 생생하게 등장하여 그들의 선전적 정부의 통제를 받는 이들 젊은이에게 일말의 연민을 느낄 수 있게 한다.작가 로버트 페론은 자신이 생생하게 기억하고 있는 당시의 상황과 한국인 친구들의 기억을 선별해 흥미진진하고 때로는 비극적인 이야기를 그릴 뿐만 아니라 이 과정에서 이들 잊힌 시절의 매혹적인 군사 역사를 이야기한다. 그때도 그랬지만, 오늘에도 절박한 이야기로 남아있는 역사다.
