Are China and the USA in a new cold war? Will China and America go to war? How can we understand or predict the future of Chinese-US relations? "Globalization with Chinese Characteristics" uses Realpolitik realism and nationalism to describe US-Chinese relations. Liberalism and Marxism are also presented as secondary perspectives to understand how these two great powers can and will relate. From these four perspectives we can chart out the likely future of US-Chinese relations in economics, politics, and culture. China and the US will continue to collide on national security, yet will also continue to cooperate economically. The US can to some extent contain China yet more importantly should seek to constructively channel Chinese ambitions in mutually beneficial ways. China and the USA might have war in the inevitable coming conflicts but are likelier to remain at peace, at least with each other. This book traces the contours of coming conflicts to conclude that though war with China is possible, it is not inevitable. Globalization with Chinese Characteristics presents complex ideas simply and powerfully. It enables a quick comprehension of current US-Chinese relations and competing theories about international relations.
