Why is there a divide in the church? For author Cornelia Lynn Beard, the divide is questionable to her when we are all a community of believers worshipping the same God. However, the fact that she was an African-American woman attending a church led by a white pastor had many of her peers asking why. This led her to write Intertwine: Creating Cross-Cultural Unity in the Body of Christ, a book unmasking the reasons for prejudice in the church among all races and ethnicities, while supporting more union in the church. Cornelia delves into the roots of prejudice, journeying back to the origins of the black church and Civil War where cultural divide in the church was more prevalent. However, Cornelia believes in loving as Christ loves by welcoming all races and ethnicities to the church, seeing that we are called to love all our brothers and sisters in Christ.
