This is my first volume of poetry which was written between 1975 and 1979.At this time I discovered girls and got my heart broken a few times, this is why a lot of these poems included here are a bit depressing. In the middle of 1978 I joined the Leeds Mountaineering Club, which was to change my life. I started climbing seriously, attending weekend meets in the Lake District and North Wales. In the same year I changed jobs and worked for Blacks Camping & Leisure selling camping and climbing gear. My mountaineering and love of music were to run parallel and became the focus of my life.The poems gathered here cover a number of topics, 'Memories' came about when I was looking through hundreds of old photographs with my mum one night. There are a number of poems based on relationships 'A person to remember'; 'The lonely man', 'A lonely Christmas Carol' and 'It's over'. Some of my musical heroes also gave me inspiration for some of them; 'Dylan', 'Shelter from the storm', You're going to make me lonesome'; are all self-explanatory. After reading both 'Beautiful losers and Favourite game by singer Leonard Cohen, I wrote 'A letter to Leonard'.After visiting Jim Morrison's grave in Pere Lachaise in Paris I wrote 'a friend in the grave. As a huge Doors fan I have visited his grave on many occasions in the late 1970's and 80's. 'The long journey' is all about nature taking control of the world. Neil Young's album 'American stars 'n' bars inspired 'Searching for a path'. Jackson Browne's 'Late for the sky' inspired 'Oh there are many times'.
