In 1889, the Russian Professor of Psychiatry, I.A. Sikorski presented his hypothesis about the existence of a some kind of a neurological illness called stuttering in his monograph "About Stuttering". This unsubstantiated assumption was later translated into German, discussed at international conferences, served as a textbook in Germany, and was further adopted by America in the twentieth century. Throughout the world today, the existing paradigm regarding any speech fluency disorder (stuttering, stammering, cluttering) is not only that it is neurological and genetic, but also that it is incurable. We're told that even if we were to stop stuttering, the "disease" would continue and we would be stutterers forever. It is that belief - based on a falsehood - that is primarily responsible for the stagnation that has existed for the past 100+ years in the treatment of stuttering. It is that paradigm that has given birth to this terrible untrue slogan "Once a stutterer is always a stutterer". It is my intention to change that paradigm. I've written this book to share with you the freedom-giving information that is enabling people who stutter to fix their own speech and life. Stuttering is NOT an illness or a medical condition. You are NOT a stutterer and you are NOT incurably ill. You have merely been deceived that you didn't have the power to develop your own speech and that you needed to rely on the power of others.
