Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, which is marked by the formation of abnormal skin or skin patches that are red, dry, scaly and itchy. It is considered to be a non-contagious genetic disease. It can be triggered by environmental factors or injury to the skin. There is no known cure for psoriasis, but certain measures can be taken for the control of symptoms, such as using immune system suppressing medications, steroid and vitamin D3 creams, and ultraviolet light exposure. Patients with psoriasis are at a high risk of developing psoriatic arthritis, Crohn’s disease, lymphomas and depression.
