Reseña del libro "Susie's Little Bible Study Volume 1: With Money Saving Tips & Ideas (en Inglés)"

Volume 1 of Susie's Little Bible Study is a compilation of 52 lessons from my online Bible study that was started 6 months after my dad died. He was a pastor all my life and instilled in me a deep love for God's word. Each weekly lesson ends with a "Tip Of The Day" for saving money and running a household. When God first began talking to me about doing Susie's Little Bible Study in August of 2011, I knew that I would reach young single moms. Twenty four years ago I was a single mom so I knew that I could relate to that heartache and struggle. I watched a news article a few months back about a young single mom with 3 children. She was sitting at the table with her children eating a banana while her kids ate dinner. She was going to college to better herself so she could find a good job and care of her family. She wanted to make sure her kids got enough to eat, so she chose to eat a banana so there would be enough food for her family. It broke my heart! When God first began putting the bible study idea in my spirit, he told me to have a "tip of the day". I wrestled with the idea of writing a book for 2 years. I didn't want to share too many details of my personal life by giving out my tips for survival. That meant that everyone would know how poor we had been and the shame that's attached to that is embarrassing. When my husband first got sick and we lost everything but the house, (we didn't make a house payment for 5 years) I learned to pinch pennies. I struggled to stay off of food stamps until I served rotten meat to my family for dinner one night. When I finally went down to social services and applied, I discovered that what they give you is not enough to buy what you need for the month. So I learned how to stretch the food and make lots of sauces and gravies to flavor the cheap things like potatoes, pasta and rice. I cook the old fashioned way; from scratch. Not everything tastes like it was made by a famous chef and sometimes my family wants more meat, but this is about survival. I'm not trying to win a cooking contest but my family always goes back for seconds. While the food I cook is not the best thing I've ever tasted, it's hearty and filling! The tips and ideas God gave to me for running a household are to help other women who are struggling to make ends meet. And when your kid needs new shoes, you don't buy steak! Some of my tips are generational. They are common, ordinary things that I watched my mom do as a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's. Hopefully, my own daughters have learned from me and they can emulate what I learned from my mom. We ate dinner every night at the kitchen table. (I didn't eat at McDonald's until I was 18 years old!) We had 2 pairs of shoes; one for school and one for church. We got a new pair when we outgrew them or when they wore out! Mom put a roast in the oven every Sunday morning before walking out the door to go to church. My brother and I learned how to do dishes before we could reach the sink. My mom worked at Cornet's Variety Store when I was a little girl, so I could run the household and cook dinner by the time I was 9. That's been 50 years ago and I'm still living the old fashioned way! This book is a mixture of Bible lessons, with tips and ideas for finding a bargain and stretching a meal while being guided by The Holy Spirit. It's how I live my life every day and God told me to share it with YOU!
