She had no idea of the struggles her parents, and others like them, faced in settling the New World - it was home to her.When she married Thomas Horton in 1671, the Colony was already in transition. King Phillip's War was on the doorstep; the Colonial Government was in turmoil; Puritanism was struggling to maintain its supremacy; and old-world superstitions such as witchcraft were in the final stages of death throes. However, Susanna paid little attention to these changes, yet their ramifications were felt as she struggled to find her own destiny as Milton's midwife. The decisions she made not only impacted her family's life but set the stage for the women who followed in her footsteps.
