Reseña del libro "Traitor's Sorrow: Children of the Bund/ Flight of the Jackal (en Inglés)"

'Children of the Bund' introduces us to the Wagner family, German immigrants to the United States right after World War I. Carl and Leona tried to raise their family the best they could, but their children needed discipline the parents were unable to provide. The children were introduced first to the 'Free Society of Teutonia', a pro-German group that had open ties with the Nazi movement. After a few years, this group was supplanted by the German-American Bund, an umbrella group that had secret ties to the Nazi government but from the outside appeared to be pro-American. Perverting young minds in summer camps through a pro-Nazi curriculum and militaristic drilling, young Carl Jr. and his peers were Nazified. The control of their minds was completed with the opening of a school which finished the Nazification process, teaching the virtues of a pro-Nazi lifestyle. Young Carl Jr. is a finished Nazi product by the time he attends the German-American rally held at the Madison Square Garden, February 22nd, 1940. There he pledges his allegiance to Adolf Hitler and makes contact with Fritz Kuhn, the leader of the Bund. Any chance at him not joining the German Army is dashed when his fiancé is killed returning home from the Bund rally. He leaves home and travels to New York, where he signs up to travel to Germany. Once in Germany, he joins the German Army and applies for, and is accepted, in the Luftwaffe as a pilot. In 'Flight of the Jackal', Carl faces the rigors not only of acceptance by the Germans, but also a group of German-American pilots he eventually winds up with. It becomes complicated for Carl when he becomes second in command for a secret mission. When the mission is exposed as an attack on Washington D.C. the day after the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, with the intent to kill President Roosevelt, his inner-conscious begins to speak to him. His doubts about total betrayal to his birth country nag him, even though he continues his training for the mission. Arriving at a secret airbase in Oklahoma, on an Indian reservation, Carl is introduced to a beautiful Indian maiden, who becomes his final chance for redemption. Facing his inner demons and the love he has for her, Yearling Fawn, Carl is driven to have the most serious doubts about his decisions in life. The fate of the world might rest on the final decision he makes.
